ArteFino celebrates Filipino artistry with new virtual collection on shop.TheRockwellist.com
In times of crises, every little thing counts. ArteFino does just that, by providing Filipino craftsmen with an avenue for creativity. The ArteFino fairs in Rockwell had been well-received by their patrons in the past. This year, they’re bringing something novel yet familiar to the Rockwell market with “Summer Escape” — an exclusive virtual collection of artisanal craft on shop.TheRockwellist.com, Power Plant Mall’s e-commerce website.
According to Cedie Vargas, co-founder of ArteFino together with Marimel Francisco, Maritess Pineda, Mita Rufino and Susie Quiros, the digital pop-up with Rockwell “encompasses and brings forth what ArteFino is all about. We’re responding to what’s relevant to the times. We’re bringing more focus to community livelihood, social enterprise, and promoting what speaks to the consumer in terms of environmental and mindful sustainability.”
In these challenging times, this collaboration recognizes the need amongst local craftsmen to continue to have a venue to offer their wares. Rockwell’s online shopping platform is both a timely response, and an ideal portal for ArteFino’s audience, providing a unique retail experience.
Summer Escape is unique for its first-ever online capsule collection, curated by ArteFino. It houses different homegrown brands such as halohalo, Art of Gold, Rags2Riches, and more. The exclusive collection features not just fashion and home accessories, but also everyday essentials which are ideal for any occasion.
Just take a look at this four-way top by Rags2Riches. Kantarines is an indigenous textile from their partner loom weavers in Abra. The garment is then sewn in-house at their workshop. It has a button down closure, and reversible panels that enable this versatile top to be worn in different configurations.
Fashion meets function in Lokal’s denim and inabel woven hand-painted lightweight masks, with water repellent lining, an ear adjuster, and a nose pincher — keeping you protected without compromising style.
Halohalo’s small palengke bag is the carry-all you’ve been looking for, whether for shopping or running quick errands. It comes with a long adjustable crossbody strap and handle straps for full flexibility. Discover more of these unique finds at shop.TheRockwellist.com. Customers can also check out some of their artisanal creations at Power Plant Mall at the R1 Level, near MAC Cosmetics.

This year may have taken a different turn for everyone, with almost everything transitioning to online. “Since ArteFino had to go full on digital this year, we needed to shift the sensibility and aesthetics of the Filipino contemporary lifestyle to bring the market a pared down sensibility, in keeping with the prevailing mood and times,” expresses Cedie. “Artisanal and social entrepreneurship will remain at its core.”

Dine at Rockwell
While the community quarantine has undoubtedly brought out our inner Michelin-star chef, there’s no denying that some days we just miss restaurant dining. As much as it is about the food, much that we crave for is all about the experience — the warm welcome of the restaurant staff, the ambiance, the flurry of aromas wafting through the air, the sound of shuffling cutlery and porcelain, and the culinary showcase itself — a whole sensory experience that can’t easily be replicated at home.
Dining out has become quite the novel thing these days, and rightfully so with health and safety in mind, but for those days when you want to treat yourself or a few family and friends, let us be your respite for these times with these restaurants:
THE TEST KITCHEN
During the different phases of lockdown, we’ve seen a whole range of menu items from The Test Kitchen – from breads to pastas to take out kits – they’ve done it with the demands of the time at heart. Of course, nothing compares to watching your dishes come to life from their open kitchen, or see cured meats carved right before your eyes so you’ll be pleased to know they’re accepting dine in and they even have a mezzanine area for your small private gatherings of up to 10 people.
TEPPAN OKOCHI
Trips to Japan may have to wait for a little longer but to keep those cravings at bay, allow us to take your tastebuds to Osaka with Teppan Okochi. With some of their fresh ingredients being flown directly from Japan, you’ll be in for an authentic Japanese treat!
The food prep is a show itself so seat yourself by their teppanyaki counter to witness the chefs skillfully create each flavorful dish. Get the best out of your visit by trying Chef Okochi’s Course menu, or go for the Chef’s Recommendation menu which offers whatever’s in season in Japan. They also boast a nice selection of sake, wines, premium spirits and Japanese whisky to cap your meal.
MAMOU
You’ve probably had a steak or two while cooped up at home but there’s something about Mamou’s signature Dry-Aged steaks and the crowd-favorite Lorenzo’s Truffle Cream Pasta that aches coming back to. Just the thought of that well-seared, perfectly-crusted steak would make your heart race. After all it’s been consistently on Manila’s best steak list for a reason.
And if you’re still a little bit hesitant about indoor dining, the best part is that you can enjoy them streetside, under the Rockwell lights at the Lopez Drive!
HEALTHY SHABU SHABU and CHAMPION HOTPOT
There’s nothing more comforting than a steaming hot bowl of soup especially since it’s a little bit more chilly this time of the year. So a shabu-shabu affair with the family is truly a heartwarming way to celebrate the holidays.
If you want something familiar and simple, Healthy Shabu-Shabu is now open for dine-in at Power Plant Mall. Choose from their different set menus which covers both meat, seafood and vegetable sets.
Or perhaps you want something with a twist. Try Champion Hotpot at Santolan Town Plaza in San Juan and their selection of hotpot soup bases which includes laksa, chicken coconut, and the quintessentially Filipino sinigang. Did we mention that this is buffet-style so you can eat to your heart’s content? Fret not as their buffet is assisted; someone from their team will be going with you to get the items from the counters so you don’t have to worry about others touching the items.
Whatever you fancy, we’ve made sure that our stringent health and safety protocols are followed so that you can leisurely enjoy your time out with friends and family. Happy dining! .

A dining escape within the city as The Grove by Rockwell goes street-side
In the bustling metro lies an enclave of lovely open spaces. The scene is easy and relaxing, all marks of the Rockwell lifestyle. It’s just perfect for streetside dining, a concept that Rockwell in Makati had started. Starting February 12th, The Grove’s restaurants go streetside, too, and it’s sure to delight residents and patrons from the eastern side of the metro.
The Pasig community can now enjoy al fresco dining along the Retail Row, where they can indulge in the international cuisines of Om Indian Kitchen, Asakusa Home of Tempura, and Bueno Tapas & Wine.
Flavorful samosas from Om, and a variety of delicious tempura sets in Asakusa, are sure favorites for customers. They can cap the night with a sizzling plate of gambas, and a nice glass of Tempranillo or a Spanish cocktail from Bueno.
All-day al fresco dining is also available at the Pavilion restaurants’ own dining set-ups. Regulars can enjoy truffle eggs with mushrooms and cheese at The Gardens for brunch. Starbucks has refreshments which are ideal for quick breaks or long work meetings. If they’re craving for something familiar yet exciting, they can opt to dine at Sunrise Buckets, known for their chicken wings drenched in home-made sauces, or Hanamaruken for their savory ramen. Tartufo Ristorante offers delectable Italian dishes that are always freshly made and best paired with thirst-quenching sangrias.

The Sweetest Thing: A Guide to Valentine’s Day Dining for Every Type of Date
To make sure your Valentine’s weekend this year is a safe, sweet, and enjoyable one, Rockwell has come up with restaurant recommendations — whether you’re spending the day with your significant other, a group of friends, or the whole family, pets included. After all, the fastest way to anyone’s heart is through the stomach.
Table for two? We’ve got you!
What better way to set the mood for an unforgettable Valentine experience than with a lobster-and-steak dinner date at Mamou Too? Their fresh Maine lobster and dry-aged T-Bone steak make an utterly flavorful, romantic meal. Keep things intimate and at the same time interesting, through conversations over wine or refreshing cocktails like their mimosas and frozen margaritas.
Add an extra dose of excitement to your love life and your taste buds by discovering The Test Kitchen’s degustation. Special tasting menus for lunch and dinner await you on Valentine’s Day.
Since international travel won’t happen anytime soon, why not have a taste of Asian Mediterranean flavors at Made Nice? Here’s an unexpected pairing — Vongole pasta with their best-selling octopus dish. Make the day even sweeter by topping it off with their scrumptious Tres Leches cake.
Spice things up with a Spanish date night at Rambla. Choice wines and modern tapas, together with a relaxed atmosphere, perfectly match the spirited vibe you desire.
For your friendly Valentine
Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love. Barcino, Nikkei, and Draft are popular for their laid back ambiance. Their exciting cuisines, thirst-quenching sangria mixes, Peruvian-Japanese inspired drinks, and ice-cold draft beers, are best consumed with friends.
You can’t go wrong with Italian on Valentine’s Day. Head on over to a mano for fresh hand-made pizza and pasta with your constants. But if you’re up for reimagined local specialties, sample Grace Park’s easy, yet tasty meal. This will definitely give you and your friends a delightful time.
The family that eats together…
We know everyone’s been missing those big family reunions, but you can still celebrate in small ways with your nearest and dearest, through Filipino comfort food. Treat your loved ones to favorite desserts like Via Mare’s bibingka, halo-halo, and puto bumbong after lunch!
Should you wish to stroll in the mall for some Valentine’s gifts afterwards, we recommend Cafe Mary Grace’s grilled ensaymada and hot chocolate for your post-shopping merienda. You can also grab a bite of Mesa’s must-try crispy leche flan, or sip into sweetness with Shi Lin’s iced Taiwan milk tea.
If you’d like to plan your day ahead, have some authentic teppanyaki as you’re in for a surprise on Valentine’s Day! The Book-A-Visit feature on The Rockwellist mobile app guarantees a sure seat at Teppan Okochi. This is also available for Power Plant Mall restaurants like The Grid, Din Tai Fung, Phat Pho, Manam, Ooma, 8 Cuts, Chili’s, Shi Lin, and Cafe Mediterranean. Download the app and book now before seats run out!
Now if you’re longing for one of the best ramens in the metro, Ippudo’s Shiromaru, Akamaru, and Karakamen have you covered.
To complete the Rockwell Valentine’s experience, enjoy musical performances by RJ Jimenez, Jino Labitigan, Dee Cruz, Anne Clerigo, Charm & Charl, Lance Busa, and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, from February 12 to 14, as Rockwell goes streetside at the Lopez Drive.

How to Curate Your Home Bar Cart
With homebound happy hour here to stay, a 50’s living room staple, the bar cart makes a comeback. Be your own bartender, and host an intimate holiday cocktail with these happy hour essentials. Here’s how you can get started:
Find the right base.
A great bar cart not only serves its purpose of holding your liqueur and glassware, but has the potential to become the focal point of your space as well; and it all starts with finding the right cart. Look for one that would complement your interiors but at the same time, adds some unexpected flair to your living room.
Make it personal.
The contents of your cart should include some basics, so be sure to include a good mix of gin, vodka, whisky, rhum, bitters, and cordials. Equally as important, they should cater to your own tastes. When curating your bottle selection with your choice of spirit, consider varying shapes, heights, bottle finishes, and colors. A balance of high and low, unexpected pops of color, and texture, will serve up some style to go with those delicious drinks.
Don’t forget the glassware.
So while we all love ourselves a good top shelf bottle, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about loving a 151 or El Hombre. Have a glass decanter to hold your liquor (literally), and make it fancy!
Using the glassware that matches the drink impacts the flavor and overall experience, too. So make sure you have the right mix of glasses based on the cocktails you can make with your spread.
Use ingredients as decorative accent pieces.
Along with your bottles and njn n glassware, add in some natural elements that can enhance your drink too— rosebud tea, fresh fruit, dehydrated citrus slices, and sprigs of fresh rosemary would round out your spread nicely. That way, your decor turns into a total treat for the senses.
Dress it up for the season.
Once your cart is set with your bottles, glassware, and garnishes, go ahead and have fun with it. Change up the look depending on the season or motif of your get-togethers by adding interesting ornaments and accent pieces.
From the base down to the bottles— now that you’ve curated your own mobile bespoke bar, it’s time to get making! Once in a while, we recommend that you go out and have a drink or two, learn from your bartender, and discover new combinations to recreate at home. Lastly, when in doubt, don’t hesitate to “add to cart.” Santé, kanpai, and holiday cheers to one and all!

Rockwell Goes Streetside: Your Outdoor Dining Destination
“Your neighborhood tambayan” was how it was called many moons ago. Dining spilled out to the streets of Rockwell Center. And it’s back with a timely twist: Safety is a priority.
Your favorite restaurants at Lopez Drive, One Rockwell, Edades, Joya Lofts & Towers and 8 Rockwell have gone streetside, while taking public health protocols to heart. The streets close to the restaurants are cordoned off on weekends to provide serenity and security in an otherwise fearful year. The free and wide open spaces are perfect for family and friendly gatherings that everyone sorely misses.
Enjoy personal conversations with friends and family at Pancake House, Grace Park, and Coco Ichibanya, over breakfast or even brunch, while socially distanced, of course. If you’re in Makati and you’re looking for the perfect place to hold your corporate lunch meetings, Rockwell has a variety of options for you. The outdoor set-up and unique cuisines of Nikkei, Woodfire, Single Origin, UCC Café Terrace, and Wild Flour Restaurant will give you the right comfort and ambience to make your meetings productive. Don’t forget to grab a cup of hot coffee from Eight Coffee Bar by UCC to refuel your daily grind.
After a long, hard day’s work, go for the relaxing atmosphere of Made Nice, The Test Kitchen, Tajimaya, and Rambla. Catch up with your loved ones over some fine wine or classic cocktails, paired with a lovely dinner.
If you happen to be in the San Juan, Ortigas, or Mandaluyong area, why not indulge in a safe and yet sumptuous meal and reinvigorate yourself in their outdoor spaces, where you can choose from a variety of cafes and restaurants? Santolan Town Plaza, The Grove Retail Row, and Rockwell Business Center Sheridan offer al fresco dining as well.
Dining out can be both safe, and satisfying. So head on over to your favorite Rockwell restaurants for a worry-free and delightful al fresco experience. Book a table in advance by calling these restaurants. For a complete Power Plant Mall and Rockwell Center directory, please visit devboxstaging.com/driectory, or see the list of restaurants offering al fresco dining below.
