  • Power Plant Mall safely welcomes patrons back to the cinemas with Dune screening

The much-anticipated Power Plant Cinemas finally opened on November 10, 2021, after a year and a half of waiting. Cinemagoers got to experience Dune, a science fiction masterpiece, on the big screen.

Members of the press and Rockwell clients were invited to the 7:30 PM screening of Dune, at the VIP Cinema 8 of Power Plant Mall. They were very excited to finally watch, after the highly awaited reopening of the cinemas. To complete the experience, they were given Power Plant Cinema popcorn as an after-movie treat. These can also be purchased at the Plaza Driveway (across the mall entrance near Zara).

Other movie enthusiasts can also look forward to more exciting titles such as No Time To Die, Marvel Studios’ Eternals, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, to name a few.

For customers’ peace of mind, Rockwell has taken on protocols to ensure everyone’s safety. Seating is at 40% capacity, with a 1.2-meter lateral distance between customers, and a 2.2-meter gap from those in front and at the back. Minors and only fully-vaccinated adults will be allowed to watch. Tickets can be booked online at powerplantcinema.com, with contactless payment solutions being highly encouraged. Contact tracing measures are in place, and a health declaration is done through scanning the U Make Makati Safe QR code at the entrance.

To further guarantee the health and safety of customers, there’s a one-hour interval between each screening for thorough disinfection, through UV light and misting machines. Fresh air supply with an air change rate that is above the ASHRAE standards is circulated in all cinemas. Power Plant Cinema has recently been awarded a Safety Seal, certifying that the appropriate protocols are in place in preparation for the return of movie theaters.

Those who prefer a safer and more intimate viewing experience with their friends and families can privately enjoy the movies through block screenings. Cinemagoers can easily avail of this at Power Plant Mall, and also at Santolan Town Plaza, Rockwell’s retail property in San Juan.

  • Santolan Town Plaza Kicks Off Holiday Festivities with a Lighting Ceremony Led by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora

It’s time to light up the town with holiday cheer, after almost two years of being cooped up at home, due to the pandemic. To kick off the Christmas festivities in Santolan Town Plaza, the Rockwell retail property in San Juan had its first ever tree lighting ceremony on November 8, 2021, Monday, led by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, with Vice Mayor Jose Warren Villa.

This special event was held at the Santolan Town Plaza Pavilions, in the presence of the San Juan City government. Executives from Rockwell also took part in the celebration.

Rockwell has always been known for its festive and welcoming atmosphere especially during the holidays. Its sophisticatedly unique Christmas decoration is highly anticipated by its customers. The same experience transcends to its Greater Retail properties, such as Santolan Town Plaza. To add excitement to the holiday season, their giant Christmas tree, covered with sparkling lights and ornaments, is something the community looks forward to each year.

As a way to enhance Christmas celebrations, Santolan Town Plaza will also be having street-side dining spaces this season, where members of the community can safely enjoy their holiday meals with friends, family, and even their pets. To complement the alfresco areas, there will be yuletide markets where customers can find easy gifting pieces for their loved ones.

Furthermore, an exciting Christmas experience awaits, as Santolan Town Plaza will be having holiday promos, where avid shoppers can get enticing freebies for a minimum spend.

The holiday season is more meaningful this time around as Rockwell seeks to bring a beacon of hope to its patrons. It’s always A Rockwell Christmas, even on this side of town. Learn more on Santolan Town Plaza’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

  • Always, A Rockwell Christmas

Buildings contoured by lights that sparkle amidst a sea of skyscrapers. Towering Christmas trees. Ceilings and hallways adorned with festive details. Christmas is on at Rockwell! The elegant, creative decorations are what customers look forward to each year, for Rockwell always pulls all stops in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Christmastime.

It’s not only the gigantic Christmas trees and that cute animal display that are back for Christmas at Power Plant Mall. The old Rockwell tradition — the Christmas car raffle— returns with an interesting and exciting twist. Joining the raffle is now easier, safer and more rewarding with The Rockwellist mobile app

Raffle redemption will be done digitally this time. Customers’ receipts will come with a code that they will just need to type into their Rockwellist mobile app, and the corresponding raffle entries and rewards points will be reflected into their account real-time.

Shoppers will have the chance to win the grand prize, a Land Rover Defender 110 (Explorer Pack), and become an Elite VIP. They will get to enjoy discounts and gifts from Rockwell and its establishments as they earn points on the app.  An accumulated P 500,000.00 in purchases, from November 5, 2021 till January 31, 2022, will give you 5,000 rewards points. Christmas shopping has never been safer and gratifying. Those who prefer to shop from home, or even customers who are traveling during this season will still get to join the raffle via Rockwell On Demand, Rockwell’s buying assistance service.

To enhance the Christmas spirit, Rockwell Goes Streetside, an all-day al fresco dining destination at the Lopez and Plaza Drive, will put up holiday fairs in partnership with ArteFino, Spectrum, and The Tasting Club, on the weekends of November and December. They’ll be carrying locally crafted apparel, accessories, home items, and charcuterie sets—perfect presents for friends and family.

Wagyuni from Asakusa: Home of Tempura

Have a taste of authentic Japanese fare at Asakusa: Home of Tempura, created out of a couple’s shared desire to serve the perfect tempura.

Wagyuni is a staple that restaurant owner Celline Baustia considers as the must-try item on their menu. “My husband conceptualized this dish,” she shared. “It’s a marriage between two Japanese favorites: wagyu and uni.”  Even better, it’s served on top of delicious sushi rice.

25 Ultimate Mouthwatering Sauces from Sunrise Buckets

Who doesn’t love good, flavorful chicken coupled with tasty sauce? Enjoy yours just how you want it, with Sunrise Buckets’ 25 mouthwatering sauces.

In creating the exciting selection of flavors, restaurant owner Bridget Co gives credit to her love for travel and food. “We love to travel the world and explore the flavors and energy we discover from our adventures,” she explained. “After over ten years, Sunrise Buckets has definitely grown to become one of Filipinos’ go-to restaurants for buffalo wings, Atlantic Cod fish n’ chips, and burgers.”

Chicken Tikka Masala, Kadai Paneer, and Cumin Rice from Om Indian Kitchen

Indian food was made for enjoying meals with company. If you’re looking for your next meal to enjoy with family and friends, whether at home or at a new destination, you’ll want to try Om Indian Kitchen.

One of their signature dishes is the Chicken Tikka Masala, made with tender marinated chicken chunks, enveloped in a subtly spiced tomato sauce, and Kadai Paneer. “It’s a simple yet wonderfully flavorful way of preparing cottage cheese and aromatic, fluffy Cumin Rice,” described Suman Gogna, the owner and founder. Indeed, it’s a combo you wouldn’t want to miss.

    Signature Happiness Ramen from Hanamaruken

Among the many ramen options at Hanamaruken, their Signature Happiness Ramen stands out the most. You wouldn’t find it anywhere else, according to restaurant owner Charles Paw. “We really focus on our meat toppings,” he shared. “The soft-bone pork rib topping is a rare-cut pork ingredient, and we took advantage of this by slowly braising it to make it almost melt in your mouth.”

Because it’s their bestselling variant, Hanamaruken has also made other options with the same meat toppings. Their Signature Happiness Ramen rice bowl and their DIY Home Kits will bring you a taste of comfort food, wherever you choose to enjoy it.

Arroz Meloso de Rabo de Buey from Bueno Tapas & Wine

For Chef Ken Alfonso, the Paella (Arroz Meloso de Rabo de Buey) was the dish that started Bueno Tapas & Wine. “It was evident to me that I wanted to bring back home the best and the fullest of my Spanish culinary experiences in Madrid, Barcelona, and San Sebastian, by recreating a comforting dish from these regions.”

Foodies who are craving for spicy food that hit a little close to home will surely delight in their offerings, especially those who love their rice. “Paella just gives so much color and depth to consuming grains, it elevates the whole experience,” shares Chef Ken. There’s just no better way to satisfy your appetite.

    Pizza from Tartufo Ristorante

Perfecting pizza dough is no easy feat, and it was a challenge that Chef Ken gladly took on. At Tartufo Ristorante, the pizza is all about catering to the Filipino palate. “This was certainly among the many things that I wanted to make sure we would be able to nail right off the bat.”

And indeed, their pizza options are well-loved within the Rockwell community over at The Grove. “It was well worth going above and beyond for,” Chef Ken proudly says.

  • The Moment Group launches HuChi in Rockwell, a new shophouse of Southeast Eats

Welcome to a mesmerizing new dine-in and delivery experience at Power Plant Mall.

Bringing nostalgia to the forefront and creating food for the present time is the Moment way. This is the same philosophy that inspired Manam and its menu of Filipino classics and twists, 8Cuts and its all killer, no filler burgers and sides, Ooma and its bold and fiery take on Japanese, and Mo’ Cookies and its
family of ooey-gooey palm-sized treats, to name a few.

This time around, it is a hunger for adventure in a beloved corner of the world that has inspired Moment to explore the familiar flavors of Southeast Asia and welcome everybody to HuChi, its new shophouse of Southeast Eats.

“HuChi” is a play on Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, a name that roughly translates to “bringer of light.” As a dine-in and delivery experience, HuChi aims to bring you someplace new for the course of your mealtime, and help you lose and find yourself, all at once, in a mesmerizing menu of pho, noodles, rice, and rolls.

“Southeast Asian flavors are a myriad of dazzling compositions and complexities,” says Moment Co-Founder and Creative Director Abba Napa. “My co-founders Eli, Jon, and I have spent many years living and working not only in Manila but also in other cities in the region and we love Southeast Asian fare, especially when experienced in the setting of a hawkers market where you can try a breadth of dishes from multiple origins in one sweep.” As a dine-in shop that is opening in the new normal, HuChi’s place in Moment’s roster of brands is a special one. “We had a great little space and we wanted to recreate an experience for the current times,” Napa shares. “What else shows hope for the future and a return to a safe and happy new normalcy if not creating a new food brand and experience?”

Built on fond memories of eating in the Southeast Asian region, HuChi’s menu is noodle-forward and divided into pho, specialties, little dishes, drinks, dessert, and add-ons. It makes use of the freshest local ingredients to recreate dishes originating mainly from the cuisines of Vietnam and Thailand, as well as charring, roasting, and grilling practices to bring out deeper flavors and desirable colors popular in the region.

    Good Karma. Good Carbs.

Must-tries from HuChi’s pho selection include poached Chicken Pho (Pho Ga), whose rich broth is balanced by Ginger Grass Lemon Oil; Shrimp and Crispy Softshell Crab Pho (Pho Hai), which makes use of seafood and fresh herbs complemented by Cilantro Chili Lime Oil to create a complex and slightly spicy broth; and the dine-in only Pho Prime (Pho Suon Bo), which offers bites of slow-braised beef rib and tendon nuggets in between rice noodles and fresh herbs, and whose match among HuChi’s oil infusions is a Chili Garlic Oil. The marinades, meatballs, and sausage used in HuChi pho are all made in house and uniquely HuChi.

HuChi’s also got a spicy spin on rice noodles, the Spicy Pad Thai with Shrimp and Crispy Egg Omelette, which is sweet, sour, and savory, and topped with crispy egg omelette shards; and a comfort wok-fried specialty, its Thai-style Wok-Fried Noodles with Chicken (Pad See Ew), cooked with peanuts, cilantro, and a Soy and Sesame Sauce.

As far as snacking goes, HuChi’s Banh Mi is a refreshing choice and is HuChi’s take on a classic Vietnamese baguette sandwich, layering house-made meatballs, Vietnamese Ham, chili and liver pate, pickled vegetables, and kropek chips.

    Dine-In and Delivery
Beginning October 1, Moment invites you to lose and find yourself, all at once, in a bowl of pho or a bite of pad thai at HuChi, which is now open for dine-in daily at the Concourse Level, Power Plant Mall, near its Moment siblings 8Cuts, Ooma, and Shawa Wama.

Delivery is also readily available on huchi.momentfood.com or through the HuChi hotline 09190845734 for up to 25 kilometers from the shop; Customers can also order via Rockwell On Demand, Power Plant Mall’s buying assistance service, through The Rockwellist mobile app, as well as on GrabFood, Pick-A-Roo, and foodpanda.

For good karma, good carbs, and shophouse updates, follow HuChi and Power Plant Mall on Facebook and Instagram.
