  • The Moment Group launches HuChi in Rockwell, a new shophouse of Southeast Eats

Welcome to a mesmerizing new dine-in and delivery experience at Power Plant Mall.

Bringing nostalgia to the forefront and creating food for the present time is the Moment way. This is the same philosophy that inspired Manam and its menu of Filipino classics and twists, 8Cuts and its all killer, no filler burgers and sides, Ooma and its bold and fiery take on Japanese, and Mo’ Cookies and its
family of ooey-gooey palm-sized treats, to name a few.

This time around, it is a hunger for adventure in a beloved corner of the world that has inspired Moment to explore the familiar flavors of Southeast Asia and welcome everybody to HuChi, its new shophouse of Southeast Eats.

“HuChi” is a play on Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, a name that roughly translates to “bringer of light.” As a dine-in and delivery experience, HuChi aims to bring you someplace new for the course of your mealtime, and help you lose and find yourself, all at once, in a mesmerizing menu of pho, noodles, rice, and rolls.

“Southeast Asian flavors are a myriad of dazzling compositions and complexities,” says Moment Co-Founder and Creative Director Abba Napa. “My co-founders Eli, Jon, and I have spent many years living and working not only in Manila but also in other cities in the region and we love Southeast Asian fare, especially when experienced in the setting of a hawkers market where you can try a breadth of dishes from multiple origins in one sweep.” As a dine-in shop that is opening in the new normal, HuChi’s place in Moment’s roster of brands is a special one. “We had a great little space and we wanted to recreate an experience for the current times,” Napa shares. “What else shows hope for the future and a return to a safe and happy new normalcy if not creating a new food brand and experience?”

Built on fond memories of eating in the Southeast Asian region, HuChi’s menu is noodle-forward and divided into pho, specialties, little dishes, drinks, dessert, and add-ons. It makes use of the freshest local ingredients to recreate dishes originating mainly from the cuisines of Vietnam and Thailand, as well as charring, roasting, and grilling practices to bring out deeper flavors and desirable colors popular in the region.

    Good Karma. Good Carbs.

Must-tries from HuChi’s pho selection include poached Chicken Pho (Pho Ga), whose rich broth is balanced by Ginger Grass Lemon Oil; Shrimp and Crispy Softshell Crab Pho (Pho Hai), which makes use of seafood and fresh herbs complemented by Cilantro Chili Lime Oil to create a complex and slightly spicy broth; and the dine-in only Pho Prime (Pho Suon Bo), which offers bites of slow-braised beef rib and tendon nuggets in between rice noodles and fresh herbs, and whose match among HuChi’s oil infusions is a Chili Garlic Oil. The marinades, meatballs, and sausage used in HuChi pho are all made in house and uniquely HuChi.

HuChi’s also got a spicy spin on rice noodles, the Spicy Pad Thai with Shrimp and Crispy Egg Omelette, which is sweet, sour, and savory, and topped with crispy egg omelette shards; and a comfort wok-fried specialty, its Thai-style Wok-Fried Noodles with Chicken (Pad See Ew), cooked with peanuts, cilantro, and a Soy and Sesame Sauce.

As far as snacking goes, HuChi’s Banh Mi is a refreshing choice and is HuChi’s take on a classic Vietnamese baguette sandwich, layering house-made meatballs, Vietnamese Ham, chili and liver pate, pickled vegetables, and kropek chips.

    Dine-In and Delivery
Beginning October 1, Moment invites you to lose and find yourself, all at once, in a bowl of pho or a bite of pad thai at HuChi, which is now open for dine-in daily at the Concourse Level, Power Plant Mall, near its Moment siblings 8Cuts, Ooma, and Shawa Wama.

Delivery is also readily available on huchi.momentfood.com or through the HuChi hotline 09190845734 for up to 25 kilometers from the shop; Customers can also order via Rockwell On Demand, Power Plant Mall’s buying assistance service, through The Rockwellist mobile app, as well as on GrabFood, Pick-A-Roo, and foodpanda.

For good karma, good carbs, and shophouse updates, follow HuChi and Power Plant Mall on Facebook and Instagram.

  • The new Tarp-to-Tote from Rockwell and Zarah Juan

Rockwell once again partners with one of their homegrown tenants to promote safe and sustainable shopping. Creating tote bags out of discarded tarpaulin banners and billboards started in 2019 with Aranaz, followed by Patty Ang in 2020. This year, they’re collaborating with designer Zarah Juan, who will be opening her first flagship store at the Power Plant Mall in October 2021.

With this Tarp-to-Tote initiative, Rockwell hopes to bring responsible shopping to the address of fashionable Manila. It promotes safety especially during this time, since the totes are easy to sanitize and perfect for everyday errands.

The main component of the bag is recycled tarp, with its handle made of vegan leather which is easy to clean. Inside the tote is a lining made of nylon, with rubberized mesh pockets that can store essentials. For a stylish twist, a big pocket made of solihiya lies on the outer part of the bag, complementing the colorful prints.

Zarah Juan’s designs are inspired by her appreciation of the bountiful harvest she remains grateful for, despite the adversity the pandemic has brought. Being confined at home during the past year had caused her so much anxiety, that she had to gather all her strength to focus on what did remain meaningful.

The tote comes in three colorways, blue with mangosteen prints, green with mango prints, and pink with pineapple prints.

Customers can redeem this limited-edition Rockwellist tote when they acquire a minimum spend of P 50,000, single or accumulated purchase, from establishments in Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center retail, or shop.TheRockwellist.com, Power Plant Mall’s e-commerce website, from September 27 to October 24, 2021. The redemption area is at the R1 Level of Power Plant Mall near Signet.

In addition to helping reduce carbon footprint, both Rockwell and Zarah Juan are delighted to embark on this partnership since it has provided jobs for local artisans during the pandemic.

Upcycling makes for a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment, and can be made fun and fashionable as well. Learn more on Power Plant Mall’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

After a year of staying in from day to night, it’s time we refresh our homes to be more than just a place to eat and rest.

Save these for your next shopping trip or use as inspiration and make your own!

    The Art Aficionado

For the lovers of art, these accent pieces from Vania Romoff deserve a spot in your abode. Those featured in this mood board are part of Vania Romoff’s home décor line, a collaboration with local design company, Ren Marble. The Casa collection is made through the artistry of skilled carvers and sculptors, with raw marble blocks hand-picked locally in Romblon.

Taking inspiration from local mythical goddesses like Lakapati and Mayari, brand owner Vania Romoff explains that each piece is “curved and soft—an ode to the female body.” The impressive attention to detail in these carefully designed items are meant to add life to every corner.

And indeed, who wouldn’t be thrilled to bring aesthetic excitement to a home? Minimalism is a thing of the past. “Your home interiors should make you feel good,” brand owner Vania shares. “The process [of collecting and decorating] is exciting and fulfilling. It’s a reflection of your individual taste and style.”

    The Modern Family

“Warm and welcoming” are words used by Philux CEO Stephanie Kienle Gonzalez and Head of Design Jessica Kienle Maxwell, when asked what it means to have a home for the modern family.

Representing a contemporary Filipino take on mid-century silhouettes, these items from Philux will give a comfortable, reassuring ambiance to any space. This mood board is curated by both Stephanie and Jessica for Rockwellists who are driven by a design aesthetic that’s family-centered.

Love for family has always been ingrained in local culture, and Philux perfectly injects this to their ongoing collections made especially for the Filipino taste. “This year, we launched our first foray into outdoor living as the lanai has always been an integral extension of the Filipino homebe it for entertaining or for lounging aroundand has grown to be a place many of us spend an increasing amount of time during the pandemic.”

With the home at the center of our lives today, Philux helps us put our families first with interiors that build a sophisticated yet comfortable lifestyle for those we hold dear.

    The Comfort Curator

What is a home if not a place to seek comfort in? MAV Furniture brand owner Eric Po shares his thoughts on being a Comfort Curator, “In our daily routine, we always tend to find a comfort zone in our houses, whether it be a corner of your living room or your bedroom. We look for our own personal space.”

Bedrooms have always been a place to unwind after a long day. While each piece in this mood board may be simple and quiet, when put together, it creates a haven for its owner.

More so during the pandemic, it’s these spaces that help us cope with uncertainty. “Before, we took for granted the empty spaces and minute accents that now have become sources of inspiration. With nice cozy interiors and well-appointed furniture, we get to cherish even the most obscure corner as we spend more time in it,” Eric explains.

These handpicked pieces from MAV Furniture were curated to help you create a home you’ll love being stuck in, especially during the lockdowns.

  • Rockwell Insiders share lockdown must-haves to fight off quarantine blues

It’s time for another round of staying cooped up at home. While we look forward to brighter days outside, we’re keeping an eye out for ways to make things fun, be productive and stay sane, while keeping safe.

From refreshing fragrances to soft pretzels, this team of Rockwell Insiders share their top picks for a more invigorating and meaningful lockdown.

    Tin, VP for Retail Development

    Saddle Row VOD Access

Even if my favorite cycling or rowing studio is closed, there’s still a way to connect with them and stay fit by accessing their workout videos. What I love about them is their cardio workouts are also available for non-bikers or rowers.

    Airpods Pro

My absolute essential for work-from-home days. Aside from being able to tune out the world and allowing some “me” time, Airpods Pro has a noise cancelling feature which is important for my online meetings.

Avocado Rib Leggings from Aura Athletica

Another essential are very, very comfortable leggings, like my Avocado Rib Leggings from Aura Athletica, for whole day wearing — from online meetings to home workouts!

Tracey, VP for Residential & Retail Development

Diptyque Baies candle and Barcino Paradise Sangria

Relaxing has somehow been an essential during these demanding times. It feels great to indulge in a soothing aroma like that of Dyptique’s Baeis candles and a glass of Barcino’s Paradise Sangria as a comforting treat!

    Boboy, Marketing Consultant

Healthy ingredients from Santis Delicatessen and Marketplace, and workout equipment from Sportlines

We’re facing plenty of at-home time, so we need to be prepared and stay healthy. Food and fitness are what I care about. I plan the menu ahead and it’s usually high-protein and rich in micronutrients: grains, whole wheat pasta, lentils, fruits, meats and seafood from Santis and Marketplace. And I’ve been slowly building a home gym, for which Sportlines is a great source – kettlebells, balls, mats, and other accessible equipment.

    Elise, Digital and PR Manager

Do Son Eau de Parfum & Shower Oil from Diptyque

I’ve been turning to fragrances to soothe my mind at the end of a long day (sometimes in the middle of one, too). It’s a quick mental getaway— with just a slather and a spritz of Do Son, I’m off to Halong Bay.

    Karlo, Assistant Brand Manager

Ipad Pro from Power Mac Center, Bonne Maman Cherry Preserves from The Marketplace, and Auntie Anne’s Cinnamon Sugar and Almond Pretzel

Staying at home means working and snacking (at the same time!), so my must-haves are perfect for just that. When I’m not in Zoom meetings or typing away my emails, I binge-watch on my iPad, and no movie or series is ever complete without my favorite pretzel or toast.

Issan, Assistant Manager for Creatives and Brand

Garlic Parmesan and Black Pepper Dry Rub from Sunrise Buckets, The Grove Retail Row

Let’s be real. Meal planning is hard, and surprisingly even more so when you’re working from home. I needed something that I could rotate between the stuff I bought in the grocery without thinking about it so much and tada! These dry rubs are such a life saver because I can use them for anything — chicken wings, a rack of ribs, fish, flavoring for fries, go figure — and never get tired of it.

    Multi-colored Retractable Pens from Muji

Having the right pen to use is so important for me to get into the working groove. There’s really no other pen that I handwrite better with than Muji’s! I use one for writing down notes, ticking items on my to-do list, and enumerating urgent deliverables. If you’re like me who likes old school pen and paper writing, these are definitely must-haves.

    Pat, Creatives Associate

Grit by Angela Duckworth from Fully Booked

Last year, in my efforts to improve my character while I’m stuck at home, I spent days watching motivational and self-help videos. It felt as if I was just doing this to say that I made good use of time. None of the videos seemed to actually help, until I stumbled upon a 3-minute YouTube video of a TED Talk with “The strongest predictor for success” written on the thumbnail.

After watching countless videos that day, and with nothing better to do, I just clicked and watched mindlessly. At first, I didn’t pay much attention. However, the speaker started talking about studies that she, herself, conducted about this topic. Unlike the previous ones I watched, this one wasn’t flooded with random quotes from random people. The topic itself intrigued me, so I looked for the full-length video, and after watching, I decided to buy this book.

Reading is very relaxing for me, and I think that it’s a great way to spend time away from social media. I find this book interesting, so now it’s my third time reading through it. It’s amazing how I always find something new that I might have missed each time I go over it.

Organic Tri-color Quinoa from Healthy Options

It’s been a long time since I stopped trying to lose weight. I used to deprive myself of food, but that just led to developing bad eating habits, which ultimately led to weight gain. Each body is different, so diets that work for me might not work for everyone. As I spent more time doing research on food and getting to know my own body, I realized that eating small portions and starving myself never works out for me. In my case, it’s not the amount of food, but the quality of the food I consume that I have to look out for.

I searched for other alternatives for rice, and I found Healthy Options’ Organic Tri-color Quinoa. It’s gluten-free, and high in protein and fibre. It’s also affordable compared to other brands, with fewer calories and carbohydrates compared to regular white rice. I can eat as much as I want without having to worry much.

Indeed, healthy food choices and healthy habits go a long way.

Natural Sun Eco Super Aqua Sun Cream from The Face Shop

I spend most of my time indoors, but I still use sunscreen. Here’s one thing I learned in college: anything the sunlight touches, it damages. Apparently, no shade can completely shield us from indirect UV radiation exposure, because it literally bounces off reflective surfaces, and that could cause damage to our skin. That’s why even though I don’t go out and bask under the sun, I still use sunscreen to keep my skin protected.

What I love about The Face Shop’s Natural Sun Eco Super Aqua Sun Cream is that it has a light consistency that feels refreshing on my skin. It’s as if I’m not wearing any sunscreen at all! It has SPF 50+PA+++ that protects and moisturizes my skin, and it applies smoothly without leaving any visible white casts or marks.

    It works wonders!

    Oowie, Brand Associate

    Power Plant Cinema Popcorn

I love movies. I miss that feeling of going inside a cinema and spending two hours enjoying a movie you haven’t seen before. Now that cinemas are closed, what helps me fill that void is getting a bucket of popcorn from Power Plant’s Cinema Snackbar. It makes watching at home feel much more exciting.

    Anina, Senior PR Associate

    Almond Milk Veil from L’Occitane

Frequent hand washing and sanitizing can lead to dryness. I keep my skin moisturized, hydrated, and firm with L’Occitane’s Milk Veil. Plus, its scent is so addictive and it leaves a bit of shimmer on my skin helping me feel pretty despite the pandemic!

    Jelly, Digital Marketing Supervisor

    Drape Pants from Uniqlo Loungewear

I often call my drape pants from Uniqlo my “cozy lockdown uniform.” It’s the perfect companion for work and fun in the comfort of home. Its cool fabric is just right for the humid Philippine weather. I can move around comfortably, whether it’s to grab a snack or prepare for a long meeting ahead.

This pair wears a ton of hats — a substitute for pajamas, trousers, you name it.

    Keanu, Senior Creatives Associate

Monte Marte Sketching Journal, Art Bar

As a traditional artist, I am not a genius when it comes to writing composition. The best way for me is to create illustrations and sketches that translate my thoughts. So if you’re like me who loves to express themselves visually, Monte Marte sketching journal is the perfect quarantine art buddy for you.  This sketching  journal has been a great companion and a loyal collector of my creative thoughts during these crazy times.

This hardcover beauty’s 150 gsm acid-free paper makes it ideal to use with any kind of medium, such as pen liners, pencil, and watercolor. It allows me to create the many prompts that my mind could think of.

The Urban Sketching Art Pack, Art Bar

I’ve been doing urban sketching since before the pandemic. Travels may be impossible for now, but this handy urban sketching practice book has made it possible for me to hone my skills. It’s a perfect guide to work on your style and technique while at home, with practice sheets after each chapter of guides and lessons. If you’re craving travel, then this is the perfect quarantine partner for you. Sketch those tourist spots and cities you’d like to visit when restrictions are finally lifted, draw that last travel photo saved in your phone, or revisit that favorite coffee shop you used to spend hours at.

And hey, this was given to me as a gift. If you know an artist, this item is sure to please. This will help them (and you) get through these travel-scarce times.

Sandali by Mikey Jimenez and Mikey Marchan, Fully Booked

With illustrations by Mikey Jimenez and words by Mikey Marchan, this very relatable 68-pager comic book compilation will take you back to the life pre-pandemic and how simple and liberating it was. • Power Plant Mall Receives Safety Seal, Keeping Your Shopping Experience Worry-Free

Your trip to Power Plant Mall has never been safer. The Safety Seal, formally received on June 28, 2021, is the assurance you need. Present to grant Power Plant Mall the certification are Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Congressman Luis Campos Jr., 2nd District of Makati, Atty. Maribert Pagente, Makati BPLO Head, Atty. Cherry Canda-Melodias, DILG-Makati Director, Atty. Ann Claire Cabochan, Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection Group, DTI, and P/Col. Harold Depositar, Makati City Chief of Police.

Power Plant Mall Safety Seal Certification Ceremony (L-R) Tracey Castillo, Assistant Vice President for Residential and Retail Development of Rockwell Land Corp., P/Col. Harold Depositar, Tin Coqueiro, Vice President for Retail Development of Rockwell Land Corp. and General Manager of Power Plant Mall, Atty. Maribert Pagente, Nestor Padilla, President and CEO of Rockwell Land Corp., Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Congressman Luis Campos Jr., Atty. Ann Claire Cabochan, and Atty. Cherry Canda-Melodias.

The certification program is an inter-agency initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) that awards establishments for compliance with public health standards. The seal is proof of Rockwell’s relentless efforts to protect its mall-goers since the start of the pandemic: the contactless thermal scanners; the ubiquitous automatic hand sanitizer dispensers; UV-sterilized escalator handrails; and a convenient online contact-tracing platform called HealthBadge

To further keep the mall safe, Rockwell has started to vaccinate its tenants, security and housekeeping personnel, and service partners, in partnership with the Makati LGU. This is in line with the government’s pursuit to push for the vaccination of the A4 category, or frontliners in the essential sector. That indeed is another significant safety milestone.

“We at Rockwell have always strived to provide a safe and secure shopping experience for our customers. We are most grateful to Mayor Abby Binay and the Makati City Government for helping us make this possible by granting us the Safety Seal and vaccinating all our tenants and service partners. With this, we hope to give our shoppers a worry-free time at Power Plant Mall,” says Power Plant Mall General Manager, Tin Coqueiro.

You may now sit down for a meal comfortably and confidently at Rockwell’s outdoor dining destinations at the Lopez Drive, One Rockwell, and the Plaza Driveway. Social-distancing is the norm at the al fresco areas, which are also kept constantly clean.

As a way of saying ‘thank you’ to vaccinated mall visitors who are helping keep everyone safe, Power Plant Mall and its tenants are rewarding them with exciting discounts and free desserts at selected stores and restaurants.

A secure and pleasurable shopping experience remains a Rockwell promise to its customers. The Safety Seal validates that promise.
